Just realized disc brake rotors have a break-in procedure I had never heard of

I was reading a Shimano tech sheet online last night and found out you're supposed to do 20 hard stops from 15 mph to bed in the pads and rotors. I've been slapping them on and sending customers out for months without mentioning it. Anyone else skip that step at first?

Honestly, I read somewhere that mechanics used to skip it all the time until brake noise complaints got bad. Tbh I only learned about it after watching a Park Tool video where they showed the layer transfer thing. Ngl that 20-stop rule seems overkill but I guess it makes sense if you want them to last.

Lol I had a friend who totally messed this up on his road bike. He got new pads and just threw them on without any bed-in, then went on a long descent and had zero stopping power. Scared him so bad he almost ended up in a ditch. He texted me later like "dude I think my brakes are haunted" and I had to send him the Park Tool video. Now he does the 20 stops thing religiously even though he still complains about how boring it is.
