Just wasted $40 on a 'quick fix' chain tool that snapped on the first link

Honestly, I grabbed it from a discount bin thinking it would work for a quick roadside repair kit. The handle sheared right off trying to push a pin on a basic 9-speed chain. Anyone know a solid brand for a compact tool that can actually take some force?

My buddy had the same thing happen with a cheap chain breaker last season. Thing literally twisted apart like a candy wrapper on a rusty chain pin. He ended up getting a Park Tool mini one, the CT-5 I think. That little guy has held up through some serious backyard hack jobs, no joke.

Serious backyard hack jobs" sounds a bit much. It's just pushing a pin out, not rebuilding an engine. A decent tool should handle it without becoming a story.

Ever try the Pedro's chain tool? Mine's been solid for years.

I've heard good things about that Pedro's tool from @hannahcraig too. My own experience is that the cheap ones use really soft metal in the handle threads. The Park CT-5 is what I keep in my saddlebag now, and it's taken way more force than it should have to on a stuck pin without any issue.
