Turns out you can avoid the fancy brake fluid for most rides
I used to insist on top-shelf fluid for every service. Now I see that standard fluid works just fine unless you're racing downhill.

But are we overcomplicating a simple part change? Most folks aren't pushing their brakes hard enough to need the expensive stuff (like you said). It seems like an easy place to save a few bucks.

Cheap brakes save money until they don't.

Wade is right about cheap brakes saving money until they don't. I bought cheap ones once and they almost made me hit a car when stopping on a hill. bettyramirez says most folks don't push brakes hard, but why risk it? Even daily driving can throw a surprise stop your way. If your brakes don't work then, the money saved means nothing. Better to spend a bit more and know your car will stop when you need it.

I used to think saving money on brakes was no big deal. Then I had a scare where my car took longer to stop than it should have. Now I believe it's better to pay a little extra for safety.
