Overheard a guy in a coffee shop say he watches shows at 1.5x speed
I was grabbing a latte last Tuesday and heard this older dude telling his friend he zips through all his shows at 1.5x speed. Said it lets him get through three seasons in the time it takes most people to finish one. I tried it that night on a slow drama I was struggling with and honestly it worked for me. Has anyone else found a weird hack like this that actually helps you power through a series?

@thomasgonzalez this is just people speedrunning life itself and i wonder when we stopped actually experiencing things.

Oh I have a friend who does that with audiobooks, he listens at like 2x speed and says it makes boring parts go way faster. But then he misses half the plot twists and has to rewind constantly, which kind of defeats the purpose, right? I tried the 1.5x thing on a really slow crime drama and it actually worked great for the filler episodes (you know, the ones where they're just driving around talking). But for shows with good dialogue or a lot of subtle acting, I think you lose something important, like the pauses and silences that build tension. My brother watches everything on 1.25x and swears by it, but he also skips the opening credits every single time, which I could never do because I love the theme song thing.

Have you ever tried 1.25x on podcasts though? I do it for interview shows where people talk REAL slow and it saves me like an hour a week. But yeah, totally agree about losing the tension in good shows, nothing ruins a dramatic pause like chipmunk voices.
