Spent a weekend watching The Wire in Baltimore and the city felt like another character in the show.
Walking around the inner harbor after binging season one made me realize how much the show nailed the specific feel of each block, and now I can't unsee it every time I visit - has anyone else had a show completely change how you see a real place?

Ha, that's a solid observation but you might be mixing up the Inner Harbor with the show's actual locations. Most of The Wire was filmed around West Baltimore, not the touristy harbor area. It's cool how the show makes you notice the real city's texture though, every corner of Baltimore has its own character if you look close.

Yeah, you really get it... the show captures that gritty feel everywhere in Baltimore.

Hold up, you're giving the show way too much credit for being authentic. The Wire is a TV drama written by two white dudes from Baltimore County, not by people actually living in those neighborhoods. They cherry picked the most photogenic rundown blocks and skipped over the massive gentrification happening in places like Fed Hill and Canton. You walk through West Baltimore today and half those buildings are boarded up tight or torn down, not the lived-in chaos the show made look real. That whole "gritty everywhere" line just sounds like someone who watched the show on a nice couch and never had to wait for a bus on a cold corner in the actual city.
