Hot take: I was swallowing 6 horse pills a day for a year before I checked if they even dissolve
Last winter a buddy in Tacoma asked me why I was choking down my magnesium tabs whole instead of breaking them, and I had no answer. So I dropped one in a glass of warm water on my counter and checked it 20 minutes later, still hard as a rock. Turns out the fancy coated ones I bought at Costco for $32 were built to survive stomach acid and basically passed through me untouched. Now I crack them open or buy powder, and the difference in how I sleep is not subtle. Did anyone else find out the hard way that half their stack never dissolved?
My dad had the same thing happen with his blood pressure pills, he was cutting them in half to save money and the halves were just sitting there in the glass for hours. His doctor finally told him those were extended release and cutting them messed up the whole point of the coating. Now he just pays the full price and grumbles about it.
