My $40 Oura ring knockoff gave me a fake fever scare at 3am
Last month I bought a cheap sleep tracker ring from Amazon for $40. It was fine for a week, then suddenly at 3am it said my temp was 102.1. I was in my bedroom in Austin, panicking, checking my forehead every five minutes. Turned out the ring was picking up heat from my phone charger on the nightstand. I ditched it and went back to a simple thermometer, and now I double check any wearable data before I react. Anyone else had a gadget send them into a false health spiral?

That 3am panic is no joke, I had a similar scare with a knockoff pulse ox that kept dropping to 88% until I realized it was just my grip. Those cheap sensors pick up all kinds of random junk, and our brains go straight to worst case scenario. Good call switching back to something simple, your gut instinct about trusting the basic tool over the flashy one is pretty solid.

The random junk part really hit home for me. I had a cheap fingertip one that would give me a perfect reading one second and then freak out with some wild number the next, usually right when I was trying to fall asleep. Same as you, my brain went straight to the worst case and I was up for hours googling stuff I shouldn't have. Turned out the battery was low and the sensor was just glitching out. I went back to the old manual one with the simple display, and honestly, I sleep a lot better now. Sometimes the fancy stuff just adds more problems than it solves, your gut call on keeping it basic was spot on.
