Got yelled at for using a borrowed anvil and busted it in half
lol so last Saturday I was at a buddy's shop working on a rail spike knife and his anvil had this hairline crack I didn't notice. I wailed on a piece of spring steel too hard and the whole face split right down the middle. He came out screaming that I ruined his granddad's anvil from the 1940s. I paid him $150 for a replacement off FB Marketplace but honestly I think good anvils are way overhyped. You can forge on a chunk of railroad track just fine for most stuff. Anyone else think the anvil hype is out of control?

Nah man, railroad track is way too hard for delicate work...

Buddy of mine thought the same thing, found an old railroad track chunk and it worked great until he tried a thin blade and the hard face chipped on him. Now he's got two anvils, a cheap one and a busted one.
