Hit 5000 forged leaves and I still hate making them

I counted up my anvil work last Sunday and I'm past 5000 leaves, everyone says that's when it gets easy but mine still come out crooked half the time. Anyone else feel like practice just makes you notice your mistakes more, or am I missing some trick that makes these things actually click?

Crooked how, like the stem bends or the leaf twist is off? Been there, and I'm wondering if it's your setup that's the problem, not your hands.

Man, I read somewhere that crooked leaves often mean the light's too close or too weak. Check that first.
