Spent 8 hours chasing a crack in a wrought iron railing that turned out to be a bad weld from 1995

I kept grinding and rewelding this one spot on a repair job, only to realize the original weld underneath had a hairline fracture running through the whole joint. Has anyone else had a simple fix turn into a whole day because of some old work you didn't catch?

My old man had a 1983 Chevy truck where the brake line kept leaking... turned out to be a patch from 1977 that was held together with duct tape and hope. Three days for what should've been a two hour job.

Hold on, wasn't the 1983 body style the square body that started in 73?

Read some article that said those square bodies had brake line issues from the factory too.
