Aw man, that sucks so much. I've been there with flea market tools before and it's the worst feeling when you get home and realize you got totally ripped off. Eighty bucks is a lot to lose on something that's probably just a cast iron chunk that'll crack if you actually try to use it. I hope you at least got a good story out of it and maybe it'll sit on a shelf as a reminder to be more careful next time. Better luck on your next hunt, seriously.

That fake 90s plane in an old box is such a classic scam move, I swear some of these sellers are just waiting for someone to get excited and not look close enough. Did you actually try to use your chunk of cast iron or just figure out it was junk right away? That's what got me with my flea market anvil last year, I had it sitting in the garage for a week before I noticed the hairline crack running through the base.

Man @blair_chen81 nailed it - I once bought a "vintage" hand plane that turned out to be a cheap reproduction from the 90s glued into an old wooden box. At least you can use that chunk to hold down tarps or something, that's what I did with mine.
