A guy at my local game night in Cincinnati called my teaching style 'rules dumping' and suggested I start with the goal first, which cut our setup-to-play time in half.

Honestly, I used to explain every single rule before we'd even touched the pieces, but after he pointed out that people just need to know how to win to get started, I now just say 'we're racing to build three settlements' for Catan and teach the rest as we go.
