Dude at my local game store swore I was wrong about deck thickness

At Dice Dojo in Chicago last month, this guy told me that sleeving my Dominion cards would make them harder to shuffle, not easier. I figured he was just being stubborn, but after 12 games my hands were cramping up trying to handle a 3-inch pile. Has anyone else had a random stranger's advice on sleeves actually turn out to be the real deal?

Man that is a TOUGH lesson to learn. I had a guy at my local shop tell me the same thing about my Magic: the Gathering commander deck, and I brushed him off too. Turned out he was right about the thickness making it harder to shuffle, but NOT about it being worse overall. Sleeves definitely make the deck stiffer and bigger, which is a real pain for small hands or long sessions. But the TRADE OFF is that your cards stay in way better shape, which matters a lot if you play a game like Dominion where you touch them constantly. Your hands will probably get a little stronger after a few sessions, or you can try a different way to shuffle like splitting the deck in half and doing a table mash instead of a bridge. So the stranger was half right for sure, but sleeving is still the way to go in my book.

Did you ever try double sleeving with inner sleeves? I did that for my Star Realms set and it actually made the mash shuffle way easier since the cards slide against each other more smoothly. The thickness is still there but it feels a lot less clunky than just outer sleeves alone.

Started double sleeving my Dominion set after reading a tip similar to what @evan_davis is saying, and yeah it totally changed the feel. The mash shuffle got way smoother even though the deck is thicker, and I don't dread playing long sessions anymore. I mean, my hands still get a little tired but the cards glide so much better now.
