Old timer in St. Louis showed me why I kept burning through grinder discs
I was over at a shop in St. Louis last week helping a guy patch a boiler jacket, and he pointed out I was leaning way too hard on the grinder. Said the weight of the tool does the work, not my pushing. I tried backing off like he said and I got through twice as much metal before the disc wore down. Any of you guys ever catch yourself muscling a tool when you should let it ride?

Did you try using a worn out flap disc on an angle grinder? I had the same problem until an old shipfitter told me to switch to a depressed center wheel for heavy stock removal. The disc shape actually changes how the grinder bites into the metal. With a flat disc you end up riding the edge and digging in, but with a depressed center you can let the whole face hit flat and it just glides through without you needing to push. Saved me a ton of disc swaps and wrist fatigue.

Well damn, I always figured a worn flap disc was just junk and tossed em. Never thought about the shape making that much difference, but that actually makes total sense.
