My cousin insisted we read a 'cozy mystery' for book club and it started a 45-minute argument about the definition of 'cozy'
She said it would be a nice break from heavy literary fiction, but half the group got mad about the lack of actual mystery and the other half hated the talking cat. Has your club ever picked a genre that just blew up the whole meeting?

Oh man, cozy mysteries are a whole thing. The cat is usually the point, not a bug. The real fight starts when the mystery is too thin, like the baker just stumbles over the body and the local cop does all the work. That's when folks like my sister jenkins.elizabeth check out for good. Picking a genre book for a general club is asking for a long night.

Remember when we tried a romance book and two people walked out over a "lack of plot." Cozy mysteries are a minefield, man.
