Our book club dropped 'The Goldfinch' after chapter 6 and nobody apologized

Back in 2018 we would have forced ourselves through every page just to prove we finished it, but last month we finally admitted life is too short for a book that drags. How do your clubs handle the moment when everyone secretly hates the same book?

My group abandoned and blamed the wine selection instead.

Blame the wine every time. It's the easiest scapegoat when a group doesn't click. I've seen people ditch a perfectly good Malbec just because they didn't want to admit the conversation was dead. Next time, pick a bold Cabernet and see if that changes the mood.

Classic move, @quinnm77. Blaming the wine is like blaming the chairs for a bad party. You could roll in with a $50 bottle and people will still act like it's the wine's fault they got awkward. I've seen a group wreck a perfectly good Shiraz and then pretend a Merlot would've fixed everything. Next time just tell them the wine is "complex" and watch them nod along.
