Vent: Burned $200 on a leather binding kit that was junk

I bought this fancy leather binding starter kit online and the awl snapped on the third hole. The thread it came with also broke like cheap string. Anyone else get tricked by one of these overpriced kits?

@emma_wells83 welcome to the club lol. My awl snapped on the third hole too, thought I was just gripping it wrong. The thread felt like it was made from old shoelaces, I could probably break it with my bare hands. Spent the rest of the afternoon staring at my $200 hole punch and a pile of scrap leather, real productive day.

Thought cheap kits were fine until mine fell apart too.

Cheap kits are basically paying someone to disappoint you later. At least when it falls apart you get a free lesson in why saving 20 bucks wasn't worth it. Guess we both learned the hard way that "good enough" rarely is.
