Shoutout to the guy at the nursery who told me to stop overwatering my snake plant
I heard him tell another customer that most people kill houseplants with kindness and a watering can, and after losing two snake plants in a row I figured I'd try his trick of waiting until the soil is bone dry and now my third one is putting out new growth after 4 months.

Honestly that "killing with kindness" thing is so true. I did the exact same with my first two snake plants before I learned to just ignore them until the dirt is totally dry.

Yeah @richard_young80 nailed it, neglect is the real secret with those things.

Tbh the only thing that works for me is waiting until the leaves actually start looking a little sad and wrinkly before I even think about watering. Once you get the hang of reading the plant instead of following a schedule it gets way easier. I've also found that pots without drainage holes are basically death sentences no matter how neglectful you try to be. Switching to terracotta pots helped me stop drowning mine without realizing it since the clay breathes and dries out faster.
