Looking for cheap dinner ideas for a family of four

Last week I had to feed my family on a tight budget after an unexpected car repair. I made a big pot of lentil soup with carrots and celery, which cost about $8 total. It lasted us for two nights. What are your go-to meals that stretch for under $10?

Lentil soup is a lifesaver for that. I do a huge pot of chili with two cans of beans and a pound of ground turkey. Feeds us for days and costs maybe nine bucks.

My roommate tried that once and used way too much chili powder. We had to open all the windows in January. Some recipes are more forgiving than others.

Oh man, jake747, that's the real budget meal magic right there. My only fear is accidentally making a giant vat of something barely edible and being stuck with it all week. Been there, ate that sad chili anyway because nine bucks is nine bucks. Your turkey and bean plan sounds way safer than some of my past experiments.
