My 'fancy' lentil soup turned into a science experiment gone wrong
Tried to get creative with a basic lentil soup recipe last week and added way too much baking soda by accident, thinking it was salt. The pot foamed over like a volcano and I spent an hour cleaning my stovetop. Anyone have a foolproof, cheap soup recipe that doesn't involve chemical reactions?

That "science experiment gone wrong" sounds rough. I read that baking soda breaks down the lentils too fast and makes them foam up. My go-to is just onion, carrot, celery, and red lentils with water or broth until soft.

Yeah, that foam explosion is no joke. @phoenix_singh25 has the right idea, keeping it simple with veggies and broth always works for me too.

Baking soda in soup seems like a weird mistake to make. The containers don't even look the same. Maybe just pay more attention next time.
