My sister-in-law called my 'cheap' meal plan 'sad' and it's been bugging me

We were at a family thing last weekend and I was talking about my weekly meal plan, which is mostly beans, rice, and frozen veggies. I can feed myself for about $35 a week. My sister-in-law, who works in marketing, said 'That sounds so sad, Avery. You deserve to treat yourself more.' She wasn't being mean, but it hit different. I grew up with not a lot, and making a big pot of chili that lasts three days feels smart and safe to me, not sad. Her comment made me wonder if being super strict on food costs is a good habit or if I'm missing out on some simple joys just to save a few bucks. Where's the line between being budget smart and making your meals a chore? Do you ever feel judged for your cheap eats?

Tell me about it! I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the total. My grocery bill usually looks like a car payment. This week I just got really lucky with markdowns and coupons. It's definitely not the norm for me, trust me. I'm taking this win and running with it before next week's trip ruins my good mood.
