Can we talk about the hostel in Prague that charged $12 for a towel rental?
I stayed at a well-rated hostel in Prague last spring and they charged $12 just to rent a towel for the whole stay, which felt insane compared to the $18 bed rate. Meanwhile, the place had a free pasta dinner every night and a walking tour included, so I was torn between thinking it was a ripoff or just a clever way to keep the base price low. Do you guys see these add-on fees as a fair trade-off for a cheap bed, or is it just a shady way to trick budget travelers?

Man, I used to be all about defending these kinds of fees... like, hey, it keeps the sticker price low for everyone. But that $12 towel thing really changed my mind. I stayed at a place in Budapest that had a "free" breakfast but charged you for using a plate and cup, which just felt sneaky. It's one thing if it's a cheap add on like a couple bucks, but $12 is almost the cost of just buying a cheap towel at a local store... so it starts to feel less like clever pricing and more like they're just milking you after you've already checked in.

Buddy of mine got hit with a $15 "linen fee" at a hostel in Prague. They charged him just for the bedsheets that were supposedly included.
