Hit 200 days of staying in hostels under $30 a night and my record is a tiny town in Romania for $8.

That $8 night in Sibiu had a broken shower head and a rooster outside my window at 4 AM but honestly the coffee shop next door sold espresso for 50 cents so I didn't care have any of you found a cheaper spot that still had hot water?

Feel that $8 Romania win down to my soul - you survived a broken shower head AND a rooster alarm clock for that price, that's just legendary. I found a place in rural Laos once for $6 but it was basically a concrete bunker with a bucket for a shower, so your Romanian deal with hot water and 50 cent espresso sounds like a steal. Props to you for sticking with it for 200 days, that takes some serious grit and a good sense of humor.

Call it legendary if you want but it wasn't that deep. I just needed a place to sleep and eat. @ruby659 your Laos place sounds rough but at least you had a bucket, I had a shower head that sprayed in three directions and none of them were down. The rooster thing was annoying but I got used to it after week one, honestly the wifi dropping out was way worse. People act like spending 200 days cheap traveling is some kind of survival test. You just find a routine and roll with it.

That Laos bunker for $6 is rough but at least you got a story out of it. @richarddixon, what was the one thing you actually brought with you that saved your ass more than anything else over those 200 days?
