Hostel lockers in Berlin taught me a $3 lesson

Was in Berlin last March and someone swiped my phone charger from the hostel locker while I was asleep. Now I carry a small combination lock everywhere even if the locker has a key slot. Anybody else had stuff walk off in a hostel?

Honestly I get the combo lock thing but those hostel lockers usually have a key for a reason. If you lose the combo you're stuck calling maintenance. Just keep the key on you or get a small padlock that fits the latch.

Yeah I agree with you @the_sean, combo locks can be a pain if you space out and forget the numbers. I've been there where I had to sit outside the locker room trying every combo I've used before lol. Better to just get a small padlock with a key and keep it on your keychain or in your pocket. Some hostels even sell them at the front desk for a couple bucks if you forget one.

Yeah I read somewhere that a lot of hostel thefts happen because people just leave the key in the locker or on the bed. That $3 lock probably saved you more than money in the long run.
