Missed my flight in Denver because I trusted a $9 airport pillow

I was napping at gate B45 with my neck resting on that cheap inflatable pillow and woke up to my name being called over the intercom as the plane pushed back, so now I just stuff a rolled-up hoodie in my carry-on for overnight layovers, has anyone else lost money on those trendy travel accessories?

and honestly that pillow thing is just the tip of the iceberg. People drop so much money on fancy travel gear that fails the second it actually matters. I've seen friends buy those expensive neck pillows that turn into blankets or whatever and they just end up carrying dead weight. The whole industry sells you a picture of a calm traveler with a neat little bundle and then reality hits you with a missed flight and a $300 rebooking fee. It's the same with those packing cubes and special compression bags, you spend all this cash to feel organized and then you're still digging through your bag in a parking garage. The real trick is just using what you already own, like your hoodie idea, and saving the cash for actual problems.
