PSA: My travel backpack zipper gave out in the Lisbon airport
The main compartment zipper on my 5-year-old pack completely separated from the track as I was pulling it closed before a Ryanair flight. I had to buy a roll of duct tape from a kiosk for 8 euros and basically mummify the thing to get my stuff home. What's a good, actually durable backpack brand that won't fall apart mid-trip?

My old Osprey Farpoint 40 has survived seven years of being thrown under bus seats and stuffed in overhead bins. The key is finding a brand that uses YKK zippers (the heavy duty #10 size, not the small ones). I've had good luck with Eagle Creek too, their warranty basically covers everything short of a bear attack. That duct tape tax at the airport is the worst, I keep a small roll in my bag's outer pocket now after a similar thing happened in Bangkok.

Ugh, that duct tape fee is such a scam, right? I had a strap start to fray on an old backpack right before a flight. The airline desk wanted like thirty bucks to wrap it up! I ended up just using some hair ties from my carry-on to tie it down tight. It looked ridiculous but it worked. Makes you want to just travel with a whole repair kit.

How do they even justify that price? Good call with the hair ties, that's some quick thinking. I swear they just make up fees on the spot sometimes.
