Rant: The hostel in Bratislava that charged me for a towel, twice

Stayed at a place last month that hit me with a 3 euro towel fee at check in, then again at checkout because I mentioned it. Brought my own microfiber camp towel after that, it packs tiny and dries fast. Anyone else carry their own stuff just to dodge these surprise charges?

My buddy had the exact same thing happen in Prague a couple years back. He paid for a towel at check in, used it, and then the front desk tried to charge him again at checkout because the first charge was "for a different towel" or something weird like that. He spent like twenty minutes arguing with them over three euros, and finally the manager just shrugged and said it was a system error. Since then he brings one of those thin Turkish towels everywhere, and he says he's probably saved enough in random fees to buy a nice dinner. It's wild how hostels will nickel and dime you for stuff that should just be included in the room price. I mean, charging for a towel at all feels like a scam, but doing it twice is just straight up robbery.
