My dad told me to stop buying coffee out and I finally listened 6 months ago

He kept saying I was throwing away $5 a day and I'd argue it was my only treat... finally did the math and it was like $150 a month. I got a $20 french press from Target and now I make it at home. Saved around $900 total so far. Has anyone else had a parent give advice that actually worked out way better than you thought?

Funny how parents are always right even when theyre wrong. My mom told me to stop buying avocado toast and I told her I'd never give up my millennial lifestyle. Then I lost my wallet and had to survive on pantry food for two weeks and realized I actually liked my own cooking better. Now I'm the annoying person who brings their lunch to work and brags about it. So yeah parents just love being proven right dont they.

Oh man, this reminds me of my buddy Chris. His dad kept telling him to stop paying for premium Spotify and that the free version works just fine. Chris would get so defensive about his "curated playlists" and no ads. Then his car broke down and he had to cut every subscription to afford the repair. He switched to the free version with ads and honestly, he says it's not even that bad. Now he just throws on a podcast during ad breaks or waits the 30 seconds. He called his dad to admit he was right and I guess his dad laughed for a solid minute before saying "I know, son." Parents really do love collecting those little victories.

It's like once you finally admit they were right, they don't even rub it in, they just bask in the silent glory of being a parent. That phone call to admit defeat is probably harder than the car repair.
