My fence fix cost way less than I thought

Some fence panels were loose. I got cheap brackets and fixed them myself. How do you keep costs down on outdoor projects?

Saved money on garden edging by using old bricks from a neighbor's tear-down. Looked fine for a season until the frost pushed them all out of line. Now I have to redo it with proper materials. Cutting corners outside often leads to more work later. Sometimes the cheap fix costs more time in the end.

Is it really that big of a deal if some brackets bend later? Not every fence is in a crazy wind tunnel. For a basic backyard, a cheap fix can hold up just fine for years. People act like you need industrial grade everything for a simple panel. Sometimes a five dollar solution does the job and you never have to touch it again.

Cheap brackets sound good now but they never last. My neighbor did that and his whole section fell over in a storm because the metal bent. Sometimes paying for better materials or a pro actually saves money when you don't have to redo it next year.
