Spent $60 on a deep freezer off Facebook Marketplace and it cut my grocery bill by $80 a month
I found a small chest freezer for 60 bucks from a guy in Reno who was moving out of state. For 6 months now I've been buying meat and frozen veggies only when they hit rock bottom sale prices and stashing them, instead of grabbing whatever's on the shelf when I'm already hungry at the store. Last month I spent $210 total on groceries for two people, which is down from around $290, and that's with beef prices being what they are. The one catch is I have to actually write down what's in there or I end up with mystery meat from the bottom. Does anyone else run a freezer stash, and how do you keep track of what's in it without digging through everything?
My buddy gave me his old upright freezer when he moved last spring and it's been a game changer, I wait for the $1.99/lb chicken sales and load up. I keep a dry erase marker on the lid and just scribble what I toss in and when, takes two seconds. Stuff still gets buried sometimes but at least I know there's chili meat down there somewhere lol.
