Thought the 50/30/20 rule was basic, now it's my whole budget system

I rolled my eyes when my sister in Austin kept pushing this on me for months, but after tracking my spending for 3 weeks and seeing how much I wasted on food delivery, I gave it a real shot in January and my savings account finally went up for the first time since 2023, so what did you all do when a simple rule made more sense than those fancy spreadsheets?

Took me three failed spreadsheets and one very sad Excel formula disaster to finally admit my sister was right. Now I have the 50/30/20 written on a sticky note above my fridge, right next to the takeout menus I'm supposed to ignore. The funniest part is I used to call it "basic" while I was literally paying $14 for a single burrito bowl delivery fee. My savings account has more in it now than my whole food budget did back in October, which says more about me than the rule, honestly. At least I can laugh at myself while I meal prep like a boring adult.
