That time a librarian in Portland fixed my messy monthly spread

I was at a coffee shop in Portland last summer working on my bullet journal when an older lady sat down next to me. She glanced over and said 'your collections are all over the place, try grouping them by project instead of by date.' I had been cluttering my monthly spread with random tasks from three different work projects. She showed me how she uses color coded tabs for each project across her weekly logs. That one tip saved me about 20 minutes of flipping pages every morning. Has anyone else had a random stranger give them a bujo tip that actually stuck?

Your collections are all over the place" - that's such a bold thing to say to a stranger! I honestly can't imagine someone just walking up and critiquing my setup like that. But damn, she was right though. I tried the color coded tab thing after reading this and it actually works. Grouping by project instead of date felt backwards at first but now I'm mad I didn't figure it out sooner.

Oh come on, it's not that deep. Some old lady told you to color code some tabs. Glad it worked out but let's not act like she dropped life changing wisdom on you.

Honest to God, she wasn't wrong though. I had the same reaction when someone told me to group my work folders by project instead of by year. Felt stupid at first but after a week I was kicking myself for not doing it years ago. Sometimes the simplest stuff is the stuff you overlook because it's too obvious. That lady probably saved that guy a ton of frustration down the line. Not life changing maybe but definitely work changing for the better.
