Rant: That influencer who said you can age a steak in the fridge at home

I was at a BBQ last Saturday and my buddy swore up and down you can just dry-age a prime rib on a wire rack in your home fridge for two weeks. Told me he saw it on Instagram and it was safe because the fridge is cold. I had to gently explain that home fridges don't have the humidity control or airflow a real aging setup does, and you're just asking for spoilage or mold you can't see. Has anyone else dealt with customers coming in asking for cheap cuts to try this at home?

Man, my buddy tried that exact thing with a ribeye last month. He ended up tossing it because it smelled like old gym socks and had this weird sticky film on it. Said he watched a YouTube video from some "steak expert" who made it look foolproof.

Three wet aged steaks in a row got that same sticky film here.

My buddy Jake tried this with a dry aged ribeye from a local butcher last spring. He was so excited because he'd watched like ten videos on it and thought he had it all figured out. After a week in his fridge he pulled it out and it had this weird slimy coating that smelled kinda like sour milk. He texted me a photo and I told him to toss it because I've seen that before with wet aging gone wrong. The videos always make it look so perfect but real life is a different story sometimes. He ended up just grilling a regular steak that night instead.
