That butcher block paste wax I ignored for 5 years finally made sense

I used to think wiping down my cutting boards with mineral oil was enough, no need for anything fancy. Then a customer from Tulsa asked me why my boards looked dull compared to his, and he handed me a tin of paste wax. I tried it on one end of a maple board last Tuesday, just to prove him wrong. The difference in color and how the wood felt was so obvious I did the whole board that night. Has anyone else found a product they swore was useless until someone showed them the right way to use it?

lol sounds like you went from hating to evangelizing in like 48 hours. Paste wax is decent but it's not exactly life-changing, just saves you from wiping on oil every week.

Jumping into the deep end is just how some of us are wired, I guess. I did the same thing with my lawn mower last summer, went from "this thing is junk" to "I'm telling everyone about this blade sharpening kit" in one weekend. It's like when you finally find a coffee maker that doesn't burn the beans, you want to shout it from the roof. Most stuff is just okay, but every now and then you hit that one small thing that fixes a nagging problem and it feels huge. Paste wax isn't gonna change your life, sure, but it beats the heck out of that weekly oil rag routine. We just get excited when a simple trick actually works, that's all.
