Went to a reclaimed wood yard in Ohio and found a 200 year old barn door with modern hinges
Tbh I was just looking for some cheap oak for a bookshelf project, but I walked into this place near Dayton and they had a massive stack of old barn doors piled up. One of them had these brand new stainless steel hinges slapped on it, like someone just didn't care about matching the era. The guy running the place said he gets that all the time from people who rip out old stuff and slap on whatever hardware is cheapest. Has anyone else seen this kind of mismatch out in the field?

Nah, keeping it original or don't bother, man.

Caught myself judging people who mismatched hardware on old wood until I picked up a door with those shiny hinges and realized how heavy it was. The stainless steel actually made it functional for a modern build while keeping the old character of the wood. Kinda changed my mind about the whole purist approach. Now I see it as a practical fix rather than a crime against history.

Dude my buddy found a 1940s sink with modern faucet handles bolted on, looked hilarious.
