I keep hearing that film camera repairs are dying, but my shop is busier than ever with them.

Younger people are buying broken cameras cheap and need them fixed, that's your new customer base. The old timers with their pristine Leicas aren't keeping shops alive anymore.

See kids fixing old cameras, @shane357, that's where the real business is now.

My local camera repair guy said he's booked three months out with Contax T2 and point-and-shoot repairs for people in their twenties. What's driving that shift? Are the older repair techs not passing down the knowledge, or is it just a totally different type of gear needing fixes?

Actually read an article last week saying a lot of the old repair manuals and special tools are just gone. The guys who knew all the secrets for certain models retired or passed away without teaching anyone. So now you have this huge wave of young folks buying these plastic point-and-shoots from the 90s that are all breaking down the same ways. The shops that can still fix those specific cameras are slammed because they're some of the only ones left who can. It's a weird spot where the gear is popular again but the knowledge to keep it running is really thin.
