Sleeping pad gave out at 2am on a rainy night in Shenandoah

Used to just grab whatever foam pad was cheapest at Walmart and call it good. Last fall I woke up flat on the ground at 2am with rain seeping through my tent floor. That inflatable pad had been fine for 3 trips but the valve just quit. Now I carry a closed cell foam pad as backup and only use inflatables rated for at least 4 inches thick. Has anyone else had a mid trip sleeping system failure that made you rethink your whole setup?

Man that sucks, nothing worse than going flat in the middle of a storm.

You said "nothing worse than going flat in the middle of a storm" and I gotta say, that's probably true for most people. But has anyone thought about how the storm itself might actually help you out here? Like, all that rain and wind could be blocking out the sound of you pumping up the tire or calling for help. In a weird way, it gives you some privacy to figure things out without everyone staring at you. Plus, nobody's going to be out there to judge you for taking a minute to catch your breath if they're all trying to get home too.
