Unpopular opinion: my dad's ancient coleman stove still outperforms my new jetboil

I mean, I was dead set that the new gear was just better, but after a wet weekend in the Smokies where my jetboil fizzled and that old green stove fired right up, I started wondering how much 'upgrade' hype is real. Has anyone else found an old piece of kit that just works better than the modern version?

My 1990s coleman double burner would laugh at my friend's fancy new one.

Oh for sure, @taylor957. I ran into the same thing last summer when my buddy brought out his shiny new camp stove. The old coleman just never quits, even if the newer ones have that fancy ignition and wind blocking. I always keep a spare generator kit in my bag for it, just in case after 30 years something finally goes. That little metal tab on the pump tends to wear out too, but once you fix it, you get another decade out of it easy.

Gotta disagree a little here @jenny_lane12. I mean, I love my old coleman too but those new ones with the built in wind screens save so much hassle when it's breezy. My 80s model struggles to boil water if there's any air moving at all. Plus the igniters on the new ones never quit like that little metal tab you mentioned.
