I followed this lifestyle creator for 2 years who always seemed a bit off. Then last week she posted a screenshot of her hitting 1 million followers and bragged about her "authentic growth." But I used a free audit tool and found 40% of her followers are bots from those $5 packages. She apologized in a video saying she "didn't know" but kept the badge. How do you know when a public figure's apology about faking numbers is actually real?

Yeah it really does sting when someone you trusted with your time just straight up lies to your face like that. The whole "I didn't know" defense is such a cop out, you know? If you're running a page that big you absolutely know where your followers are coming from (or at least you should). And keeping the badge after the "apology" just proves it was all about the number, not about the community. You're totally valid for feeling sick about it.
