Can we talk about automated resume screening?
I applied for several jobs last month and got instant rejections. It seems like the software only cares about keyword matching. What tips do you have for beating these systems?

I read something from a recruiter who said these systems are basically just pattern matching. Their big tip was to copy words from the job description straight into your resume. You have to match the exact phrases they use for skills or duties. Put the important keywords near the top too, because some systems stop reading after a point. It's annoying, but you gotta play the game. Using a simple format without columns or fancy graphics also helps the software read it right.

Pattern matching systems. How exact do keywords need to be? If the job says 'data analysis' but I wrote 'analyzed data', does it count?

Yeah, it's totally a game of matching the exact words. I got the same instant rejections until I started copying whole lines from the job ad into my skills section. If they say "project management," you write "project management," not "managed projects." I even changed my job title on the resume to match theirs, which felt weird but it worked. The plain text thing is key too, no tables or boxes.
