PSA: Found out 80% of job offers never get posted online
I was reading this HR blog last night and apparently recruiters fill most roles through networking and internal referrals before they even hit job boards. That explains why my 47 applications only got 2 callbacks last month - anyone else feel like they're just shouting into the void on LinkedIn?

Hold on a minute. That HR blog is probably just trying to sell you their resume service or something. Those "easy apply" buttons aren't completely useless. I've gotten a couple decent leads from them over the years. And yeah, networking matters, but that's always been the case even before the internet. You can't just sit back and expect jobs to fall in your lap without talking to people. The fact that 2 out of 47 called you back means the system works better than you think. A lot of those other applications probably just weren't a good fit for the job, not that the system is rigged.

Yeah it's basically a secret handshake club at this point. 47 applications and 2 callbacks is rough but honestly that's about par for the course now. LinkedIn is just a giant black hole where resumes go to die. The real jobs get filled by someone's cousin or that guy they met at a conference once. Makes you wonder why anyone even bothers with those "easy apply" buttons anymore. Might as well throw your resume into a trash can and save the effort.

Yeah everything's a secret club now, it's the same with renting apartments or finding a good mechanic.
