Am I the only one who had a miter saw fence come loose mid-cut?
Last Thursday, I was cutting a bunch of 2x4s for a deck frame and my saw's fence shifted a quarter inch on the fifth cut. The board kicked back and nearly took my thumb off. I shut everything down, checked the bolts, and found the main locking knob had stripped its threads inside the cast aluminum. I had to clamp a speed square to the table as a makeshift fence to finish the job. Has anyone else had a fence fail like this, and what's a good fix besides buying a whole new saw?

Cast aluminum strips out way too easy...

My buddy's fence slid on him while he was trimming door casing. He ended up drilling and tapping it for a bigger bolt, said it's been solid since.

That stripped thread in cast aluminum is a real weak point, isn't it? While @paige166's friend had success drilling and tapping, have you checked if the saw maker sells just that fence assembly as a spare part? Sometimes you can get the exact piece for way less than a new saw, and it keeps everything original.
