Bought a $300 Japanese pull saw and it's a total game changer
I was skeptical at first, thought my old back saw was fine. But this thing cuts through hard maple like butter, leaves a finish so clean you barely need to sand. Used it on a built-in bookshelf project last week and saved me at least two hours of cleanup. The thin kerf means less waste, which matters when you're working with expensive stock. Honestly, best tool purchase I've made in years. Anyone have other hand tool recommendations that actually live up to the hype?

What brand of pull saw did you end up getting?

Went with a Suizan dozuki from a local woodworking shop. The 240mm blade is perfect for dovetails and small joinery. It cuts like a dream right out of the box.

Spend that money on sharpening your old saws instead. A sharp western saw cuts just as clean if you know how to use it. This whole pull saw craze feels like people buying skill in a box. My grandpa built furniture for fifty years with basic tools and never needed a three hundred dollar piece of stamped steel.
