Caught my apprentice using my good chisel as a pry bar, changed my whole routine

Tbh I was furious at first, but then I realized I never actually showed him the difference between tools. I grew up learning from my dad in his shop outside Cleveland, where you got yelled at for touching the wrong thing, so I just assumed everyone knew. Now I do a 10 minute tool walkthrough with every new hire before they touch a single board. Has anyone else had to unlearn that old school 'figure it out yourself' mindset on a jobsite, or is it just me?

Doesn't this kind of thing show up everywhere, not just shops? I mean, we all carry around stuff we learned by getting burned, and we just expect other people to know it too. Once I started assuming nobody can read my mind, my whole day got easier, both at work and at home with my family.
