Found out my tape measure was off by a full 1/8 inch after a year of work

I was framing a closet shelf in a house out in Grand Rapids and kept getting frustrated that my cuts were just a hair off. Blamed the saw, blamed the wood, blamed the humidity. Then I checked my old Stanley tape against a brand new one and sure enough, the hook was bent just enough to throw everything. Swapped it out and my miters fit perfect on the first try. Anybody else ever had a tape measure go bad on them without noticing?

Bent the hook on a 25 footer once and didn't notice for six months.

Dropped a 40 footer on its side once and didn't catch the tiny kink in the tape for almost a year. Only found it when I measured something three times and kept getting different numbers haha.

Damn, a whole eighth of an inch off? That would drive me insane.
