I finally tried using that new fast-cure epoxy for a miter joint

Last week I was fixing a window frame in a Denver house and used a two-part epoxy that claimed to set in 5 minutes. I clamped it up tight like normal, but the stuff got so hot it actually warped the wood before it even hardened. Now I've got a gap you can slide a dime into. Has anyone else had epoxy cook their project like that? What brand do you trust for big joints?

Wait, it got so hot it warped the wood? Mark_green is right about fast stuff backfiring!

Fast-cure anything seems to follow the same rule as fast food, it's a trade-off that usually backfires. You get speed but sacrifice control, and your project pays the price. I stick with the slower stuff for important joints, because watching glue dry is better than watching wood warp.

Ever try to rush a glue-up with fast stuff and it sets before you get the clamp pressure right? That's why I keep the slow stuff for real joinery, because a few extra minutes won't hurt but a bad bond will. Speed is for when you're fixing a fence, not building a table.
