Rant: The time I had to cut a carpet around a weird fireplace in a Denver condo
I was in this high rise downtown, laying carpet in a living room with a big stone fireplace that stuck out at a weird angle. I started to cut the carpet to fit around it like normal, but my knife slipped and I made a huge, jagged tear right in the middle of a piece. My heart sank. I had to stop, take a breath, and cut a whole new patch piece to seam in. It added like two hours to the job. Has anyone else had a simple cut turn into a nightmare on a weird shaped obstacle?

That "weird angle" on a fireplace is the worst. I once had to trim baseboard around a radiator pipe that was just slightly off the wall. A simple miter turned into a bunch of weird, pieced together cuts that looked awful. Some things just fight you the whole way.

A radiator pipe too? That's just cruel.

But isn't that what makes the job interesting?
