Just hit 50k followers and found out half were bots

I was celebrating hitting 50k on my celebrity analysis page yesterday. Then I actually looked at the engagement numbers. Only 200 people liked my last post about that singer's fake pregnancy rumor. Ran it through a bot checker and sure enough, 25k of my followers are fake accounts. Has anyone else dealt with a huge chunk of their audience being bots?

Man I went through the exact same thing last year. I was sitting at around 30k followers and felt good until I noticed my comments were always dead. Ran a purge on my account and lost like 40% of my followers overnight. It sucked but my engagement actually went up after that because real people were actually seeing my posts instead of getting buried by bot accounts. Best thing I did was start blocking obvious bot accounts manually for a few weeks and buying a cheap bot checker subscription once a month to clean house. Your real fans will stick around and the fake numbers are just a headache waiting to happen.

Purge days hurt but they always fix the engagement problem.

Wait, you used to think having those big follower numbers mattered? I totally did too until I cleaned house and realized I was just lying to myself about how popular I actually was. Now I'd rather have 200 real engaged people than 50k ghosts.
