Ran into a former publicist at a coffee shop in Silver Lake last month
She was working on her laptop and we got to talking about how gossip sites work. She said a story about a certain pop star's 'secret wedding' last year was 100% planted by her own team to cover up a contract dispute. They gave one blurry photo to a specific blog for $500 and let the rest of the media run with it. It completely changed how I read those 'exclusive' blind items now. Has anyone else heard a pro spill the beans on how a specific rumor got started?

Totally, a stylist friend said they leak fake breakup stories just to sell more of a celeb's sad breakup album.

Heard a manager say they started a feud rumor between two clients just to get them both trending searches. Makes you wonder what’s real.
