Showerthought: I saw a paparazzi setup in person and it changed my whole view on those 'candid' shots

I was doing a landscaping job for a client in Malibu last month, right on a street where a lot of celebs have houses. I saw a van parked down the block with a guy just sitting inside, camera pointed at a specific driveway. He was there for my whole 8 hour shift, just waiting. It wasn't some guy snapping a quick pic, it was a planned stakeout. It made me realize how many of those 'spotted looking casual' photos are actually just someone waiting all day for a 2-second walk to a car. The whole 'caught off guard' thing is mostly fake. They're just waiting for the person to come outside. Has anyone else seen how these setups actually work and felt like it ruined the magic of gossip pics?

That "planned stakeout" part is so true, I saw the same thing outside a hotel once.

Wasn't that just a rideshare pickup spot?

Guess they were waiting for a really special ride.
